During the 1970′s, the phone phreaks or phone hackers appeared: they learned ways to hack the telephonic system and make phone calls for free.

John Draper built a ‘blue box’ that could do this and the Esquire magazine published an article on how to build them. Fascinated by this discovery, two kids, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, decided to sell these blue boxes, starting a business friendship which resulted in the founding of Apple.

Getting their laughs and skills from hacking and cracking into primitive computers and exploiting the Arpanet (predecessor to the internet), they created a novelty that would become the target of federal crackdown in years to come.

Eclipse-Omondo Installation unter Ubuntu Karmic Koala

Voraussetzungen: Eclipse Galileo und Java6 ist bereits via Repository installiert. Wenn nicht:

sudo aptitude install eclipse sun-java6-jdk

Als erstes lädt man sich nun folgendes runter: EclipseUML 2.2 for Eclipse 3.5/3.5.1 download for Java and Java EE Modelers (Verweis von http://www.uml2.org/download.html)

Die heruntergeladene Datei öffnet man nun wie folgt:

sudo java  -jar eclipseUML_E350_2009_studioEdition_3.5.0.v20090917.jar
. Man lässt sich vom Installer begleiten. Wichtig ist hierbei nur, dass das Installationsverzeichnis richtig gewählt wird. Dieses ist in meinem Fall /usr/lib/eclipse/.

Wenn ich Eclipse nun starte, sehe ich unter File –> New –> Other UML Diagrams. Die Installation hat also geklappt.

Auf der Omondoseite wird aber noch vor dem Download darauf hingewiesen, dass man sein Eclipse etwas tunen sollte. Ich bearbeite dazu die Datei /usr/lib/eclipse/eclipse.ini und ändere folgende Werte:

Und dann füge ich unter die eben editierten Zeilen die folgende hinzu:

-XX:PermSize=512m

Schon gewusst: IntelliJ ist nun Open Source

Wie ich eben hier gelesen habe, ist IntelliJ nun opensource. Das war für mich immer DAS Ausschlusskriterium gegenüber dieser Java-IDE.
